What/where is Tippecanoe?

The name 'Tippecanoe' was used by the owner of the original gift shop,
Hilda Robb, which was originally by the harbour in Portree, Isle of
Skye. She had heard it associated with American Indian inspired
cross-stitch patterns. It is probably derived from an Indian word.

Tippecanoe, is a county in the State of Indiana, USA. There is also a
Tippecanoe River, and there was a Battle of Tippecanoe. It was also
the nickname of the shortest lived American President, Harrison, who
was the General at the Battle of Tippecanoe. The slogan for the
electoral campaign was "Tippecanoe and Tyler too".

On taking over the business in 1998, the shop name of 'Tippecanoe'
had stuck. We regularly get American visitors to the shops from
Tippecanoe.
